corn pellets pellet stoves

Pellet stove users can save money by making their own pellet fuel.Pellet fuel can be made from any organic biomass including corn stalks.
Because corn stalks are a byproduct of corn crops and not generally used after the corn is harvested, making corn stalks pellet fuel is an environmental friendly solution for heating fuel. Investing in equipment required to make pellet fuel can be a cost effective option depending on how much pellet fuel you require.

1. Put on a dust mask, safety glasses and gloves. Turn on your hammer mill and place a large container below the outlet chute. Feed dried cornstalks one at a time into the hopper of the hammer mill. It will exit the machine in a shredded mass. Turn off the hammer mill when you are finished processing all the stalks.

2. Add water from a spray bottle if necessary to moisturize the shredded corn stalks. You should add enough water so that the pellets are shiny and hard.   If there is not enough moisture, the shredded stalks will not feed into the pellet mill properly. If there is too much moisture, no pellets will come out.

Corn versus wood. In the battle of fuel sources, each choice has its own advantages, but also disadvantages. They're both renewable sources, however, and produce about the same amount of heat.

Pellet stoves can be alternative heating or supplemental heating sources. The initial capital outlay is much less than solar, geothermal or wind systems.

The word corn, or maize, conjures up different visions. Food is the first use that comes to mind, but it's an important source for heating as well.

Pellet and corn stoves are great for those who are looking to have readily-available, inexpensive, guilt-free fuel. For controllable heat with minimal work, check out our extensive collection of Lopi , Avalon , Hearthstone , Enviro , Piazzetta , and Kozi .

If you’re looking for an environmentally-responsible way to enjoy the warmth and comfort of a stove, a pellet stove may be just what you’ve been looking for.

If you’ve been looking for a stove that can keep your home warm without the cost of gas or the carbon footprint of wood, you may want to consider purchasing a corn stove.

As part of our ongoing commitment to producing New England’s Finest Sod, we employ crop rotation on our farm - a practice which keeps pests, disease, and weeds to a minimum. One of the crops we use in our rotation is corn and since 2009 Sodco has offered our Blazin’ Corn product as an alternative heating fuel source for pellet stoves and boilers.

Corn fuel can be a feasible way of dealing with the high prices of more conventional fuels, such as oil or gas. Corn fuel is also an environmentally friendly heating source, resulting in no net increase in carbon in the atmosphere and posing no environmental dangers due to spills or leaks. It is also nearly smoke free and pollutant free and, unlike a wood fire, corn fuel produces a pleasant smell.

All corn used in our Blazin’ Corn product is grown on our farm in Slocum, Rhode Island. The corn is harvested, dried, and bagged on site. We even heat our entire company with our own corn fuel – the oil truck has not made a delivery to our farm since 2009!
